Football fanatics thinking of watching this summer's World Cup action on TV might be changing their plans after reading this article.

Instead, a dedicated World Cup campsite in sizzling Rio - set up by two entrepreneurs from Sussex - could prove a more fitting venue for fans wanting to cheer on their favourite teams.

Andy Allan and Stephen Bike, both 40 and from Seaford, have launched the purpose-built campsite in Brazil's second largest city specifically for football supporters wanting to be closer to the World Cup frenzy.

The pair, who came up with the idea in response to high accommodation prices in Rio during the competition, have built a site that offers European and Brazilian cuisine, big screens to watch matches on, a swimming pool, site shop, shower and toilet facilities and chances watch England play live in other Brazilian cities.

Andy, a successful city trader who previously commuted from Hove to London, said: “The site can hold up to 800 people and it should be a lot of fun.

“We are based in a beautiful and safe part of the city with some lovely beaches close by. It should be a brilliant World Cup as Brazil is so vibrant and the people love to party and celebrate. It's going to be a month-long party.

“We have live entertainment on various nights which will get the campers going and during the day we expect most people will be out and about as Rio is such a great city with lots to see.”

After the cost of a plane ticket, a one-night stay at the camp will cost punters £35 including tent hire. In addition to the creature comforts of the camp site, Rio boasts the largest urban forest in the world, award-winning beaches and nature reserves.

Andy said: “We were both running a property business in Rio prior to this, but also wanted to get involved in the World Cup. We also spent many summers camping out at music festivals and lots of surf trips down the West Country, so we had an idea of what we would need to do.

“We feel we have a lot to offer anyone who wants to come and experience the unique atmosphere of a World Cup in Brazil.

“We are open to the global family of football supporters and everybody is welcome to come and join in what promises to be a fantastic event.”
