I have sympathy with the people who complain in the Letters section of The Argus about the high local rents they have to pay.
The last example of this was on Saturday, May 24, where website readers’ views were covering the costs of landlord fees.
All countries have highly desirable places to live, with consequently higher costs.
Brighton is now said to be the most popular seaside city in the UK, in part because of it being within easy reach of London.
We could all go to live in the less desirable parts of the UK for probably half or less of our rents but what we see is the people in those areas coming to live in Brighton at double their rent.
And, as a local landlord, what I find is that there are a lot of foreign people coming into the city, working longer hours than many are prepared to work, to pay these higher rents.
