Brighton and Hove City Council’s policy of planning for the conversion of all taxis to be able to take wheelchairs is admirable but has little understanding of all disabilities.
I for one am short and getting shorter by the day due to oesteoarthritis.
I also have other physical weaknesses.
It is difficult to climb into the new-style taxi cabs – I need to use the front seat and they are high to climb into.
Going into the back of such a cab or even a larger one is out of the question as one has to rise to semi-standing, which is difficult.
A good old-fashioned saloon cab is much easier for me and people shorter than me.
Please, councillors, reconsider this decision and show some sympathy before it is too late.
I hope you will find it in you to change this policy.
