Drivers faced long delays following two collisions on a major road in the space of an hour.
Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the A23 shortly before noon today following reports two cars had been involved in an accident.
Five cars were then involved in a second incident on the northbound carriageway just before 12.30pm.
Sussex Police said the incidents were shunts and nobody had been injured.
However the incidents led to long tailbacks while emergency services cleared the scene.
