HASTINGS Labour Party was celebrating last night after retaining control of the borough council while taking a seat from their Conservative rivals at this year’s local elections.
The party also saw a big swing from Tory to Labour in some seats with even seats the Conservative party held showing small shifts away from the party.
Turn out was also up to 37.99% from 27% last time.
But it was a bad night for Ukip, which lost its only member on the council despite other candidates finishing second and third in many seats with the Liberal Democrats a long way behind.
Following the results the Labour Party tweeted: “Hastings Borough Council is now made up of 24 Labour councillors and 8 Conservatives – key general election seat held by the Tories.”
Hastings was the only Sussex council to declare results last night in the local elections with Crawley, Adur and Worthing declaring later today.
