A Brighton-born model at the centre of a World Cup row could find herself in court.
French football manager Didier Deschamps has filed a civil lawsuit against model and pop group member Anara Atanes over her Twitter outburst following her boyfriend Samir Nasri’s exclusion from the country’s World Cup Squad.
The former Brighton and Hove High School For Girls pupil tweeted a number of expletive-filled messages following the expulsion of the Manchester City midfielder from France’s provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup Finals which start next month.
One of the tweets is said to have questioned the managerial ability of Deschamps – a former World Cup winner during his illustrious playing career.
The former Varndean College performing arts student has since apologised for her comments and any offence she may have caused to her boyfriend’s countrymen and women.
The French coach cited Nasri’s recent form and the potential for his behaviour to weaken team spirit during the tournament in Brazil as the reasons behind his shock exclusion.
The midfielder, who was also dropped from the 2010 French World Cup squad, was a key player in Manchester City regaining the Premier League title this month.
His 25-year-old Brighton-born and raised girlfriend was signed up to a top model agency in London when she was 15.
She was announced as one of the members of girl group Fanfair in 2011.
Miss Atanes tweeted last week: “I apologise if I offended anyone from France, my tweets were not aimed at the nation as a whole.”
The French Football Federation has also been drawn into the row, releasing a statement backing their manager.
They wrote: “The FFF condemns insulting remarks against Didier Deschamps and fully supports the coach in his approach.
“The unanimous feedback confirmed that the whole of France condemned such remarks.
“The FFF believes that the unanimous indignation is enough to condemn such behaviour.”
