Here we go again. The powers that be in Brighton are allowing another one of our treasures to be torn down.
This time it’s the Rose Hill Tavern in Brighton (The Argus, May 20).
It is a fantastic old pub with a unique green tile facade.
You will never see another old Victorian pub like this one.
The tiles alone, if sold to one of those industrial salvage firms, would cost a fortune.
All I can say is leave them alone and leave the pub alone.
Enterprise Inns says it is in the process of completing a sale to a buyer and that there is no information on the intentions for the site.
There might not be any plans for this site yet but we don’t want another monstrosity built in the pub’s place.
I wrote to The Argus two weeks ago (May 8) about the bottom of West Street and the ugly building that stands today where the old Daily Telegraph building used to. Pulling that down would be a better idea.
The Rose Hill Tavern has stood where it is and served people for more than 140 years and is a delight to see.
