Does the £5 million for replacing arches around the West Pier site, according the Green councillor Ian Davey (Letters, May 5), include the building of a group of ten small business outlets (Chris Stonor’s letter, May 1) and the work started for the i360 at the bottom of Preston Street (Alfonso Comitini’s letter, May 6)?
It sounds as if this £5 million is for preparing the area for the £36 million i360 gamble.
Why didn’t the council renovate all the arches as a priority? Perhaps then the road collapse and closures could have been avoided.
Coun Davey says that two years ago the council began a seafront renewal scheme that will take about £70-£80 million and many years to complete. But erosion won’t wait!
Let the council publish a list of the projects included and a breakdown of the costs of each. Then let’s see if the community has any ideas for helping things along.
