Food glorious food – a Brighton chef has taken to serenading her customers as she cooks.
Kim Coghlan at Honey’s Food Bar in Crowhurst Road sings familiar tunes with original lyrics about the ingredients, meals on the menu and even their five-star hygiene rating.
But the 48-year-old of The Drove in Brighton is not quite pitch-perfect and her colleague Jamie Degnin, 48, lets customers know earplugs are available when Kim breaks into song.
Kim took over and rebranded Honey’s Food Bar eight weeks ago and her original combination of food and song – as well as the double comedy act with Jamie – is already going well.
Bubbly Kim’s performances have sparked a range of reactions, from children jumping up and down to leaving builders in hysterics.
Kim said: “One customer, who arrived in a bad mood, told me it was so nice to come somewhere with a really happy atmosphere.
“He went back to work, told his colleagues who didn’t believe him and the next day came back with his boss.”
Customer Dan Lewis, 34, of Coolham Drive, Brighton, said: “I love it, I’m there every day. I get roped in and sing a chorus sometimes too.”
But regular Martin Williamson, 59, of Rosslyn Road, Shoreham, said: “The singing is not up to much, but the burgers are beautiful.”
Kim’s talents are already throwing her into the public eye, after she was asked to sing on radio station Juice 107.2.
Kim, who is helped to write her lyrics by Jamie, said: “I always wanted a burger van. It works really well and the customers love it.
“Customers started to leave us feedback on our food, service and entertainment. I even get requests.”
Customer Tim Aldous, 42, of Honeysuckle Lane, Findon near Worthing said: “The food is fantastic. Ten out of ten.
“They are polite and courteous. But the best bit is Kim has a good figure and is a bloody good singer.”
Phil Brooks, 41, of Whiterock Place, Southwick added: “Good food and the voice of an angel.”
