A KNIFE point robbery left a shop worker with stab wounds as a man made off with money from a newsagent.
Shortly before 3pm a call was received from a newsagents in Southgate Parade in Crawley to say they had been robbed.
A man came into the shop, threatened the shop worker with a knife and demanded money.
One of the shop workers received stab wounds to his hand and bottom as he tried to get the robber out of shop.
A quantity of money was handed over.
The injured shop worker was taken to East Surrey Hospital to be treated for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Detective Sergeant Dan Gower said: "This was an extremely nasty attack and we are appealing to anyone who might have been at the parade of shops at the time and might have seen what happened.
“The suspect is described as being around 30-years-old, about 5', having brown hair and tanned with a scarf over his face. We believe the suspect left with his hood up in the direction of Collier Row.
“We have officers searching the area and we are appealing to anyone who saw anything in the area or has any information which could help with our investigation to please get in touch. Please call 101 quoting serial 816 of 13/5."
