Two couples should be able to raise a glass in celebration after becoming Brighton and Hove’s first micropub landlords.
Hove couples Rick and Ruth Evans and Dave and Ali White’s proposals to convert York House Wines off-licence in Richardson Road in Hove into the city’s first micropub have gained the backing of council officials.
Brighton and Hove City Council’s planning committee are being recommended to grant permission for the new venture when they meet today.
The pub would serve locally sourced beers and ciders to up to 34 customers while the no-frills approach will mean the pub will not play music or have quiz machines.
It would open between noon and 9pm Monday to Thursdays, noon to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 2pm on Sundays.
Thirty-five residents wrote to the council against the proposal while 20 wrote in support.
