I was saddened to read about the bench at the top of Westbourne Gardens, Hove, which has become a no-go area due to the presence of street drinkers (The Argus, May 8).
I am mystified as to why the police think it would be better to move the bench rather than the drinkers. It is their job to uphold the law and these drinkers should be dealt with accordingly.
I feel sorry for the lady who donated the bench in memory of her father – a war hero who lived nearby for many years. I bet he would be turning in his grave if he knew this was happening now.
I urge the police to put residents first.
