I went in the sea in Hove last weekend and had an enjoyable swim, going out about 40 metres at times.
After I came out I was stunned to see two jet skis race past just where I had been swimming. As they appeared to be racing I doubt if they would see a head in the water so I probably had a lucky escape.
Last year in May, jets skis were racing by not too far from the beach. Surely the council should put out the yellow marker buoys immediately, before a tragedy happens? Waiting until June is too late.
The firms renting out ski jets must also be told to instruct all ski jet hirers of the need to stay outside of the marker buoys. They should in any case give clear instructions about staying well clear of the beaches if no markers are out. There is no need for jet skis to come in close to shore so they need to be made aware of the danger they pose to swimmers.
Take action now before a swimmer is badly injured.
