I was interested, nay, saddened to see the Then And Now picture (The Argus, May 6) of the bottom of West Street, Brighton, which rekindled my memories.
Take a look at the fantastic, beautiful architecture of the then buildings, and then take a look at the monstrosity of the building that has replaced it.
The old buildings really were a sight to behold whereas the horrific square box with pointed spikes for a roof looks more like an upturned drain hole cover.
It really seems the councils of the 1970s were just as bad as they are now. Our so-called modern, up-to-date council still hasn’t got a clue and won’t be happy until all our beautiful buildings are demolished and replaced with what I can only describe as a Lego city with square boxes and weird additions which, quite honestly, are destroying Brighton.
