A political candidate posed for a campaign picture while meeting voters but appeared in the wrong constituency.
Labour hopeful Nancy Platts is hoping to become an MP for Kemptown and was pictured outside the Walmer Castle Pub with a group of campaigners and supporters, including Brighton and Hove group leader Warren Morgan.
But some users on the social media site Twitter took a dig at the Labour group by pointing out they had technically crossed the parliamentary boundary and were standing in the Pavilion constituency as they were on the wrong side of Queen’s Park Road.
In 2010 Nancy Platts was a Labour candidate for Brighton Pavilion, when she lost to Green candidate Caroline Lucas.
Joe Miller, a future Conservative council candidate for Brighton and Hove, said the apparent blunder showed the Labour candidate was “more Brixton Hill than Albion Hill”.
Blunders Writing on Twitter he wrote it was “embarrassing” that the Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate had a picture taken in the wrong constituency.
And in a comic response to the saga, current Kemptown MP Simon Kirby added: “Brighton Kemptown is a very special place made up of lots of different communities. It runs from the Palace Pier to Peacehaven and from Moulsecoomb to the Marina.
“Many people new to the area find its boundaries difficult to fathom. I’d be delighted to show Nancy around the constituency if she would like a tour of all its interesting parts.”
This latest incident adds to the growing list of political campaign blunders.
Earlier this week Lib Dem Sussex MP Norman Baker was ridiculed after spelling Sussex as Susex on the front page of a booklet sent out to constituents.
Nancy Platts said: “We met across the road outside a well-known pub, I would suggest it’s the Tories who don’t know the constituency if they don’t know we’re standing across the road.
“What I’d like is to see them take the issues of people living in Brighton and Kemptown more seriously and talk about issues rather than playing stupid games on Twitter.”
She also provided a picture posted on Twitter of Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Brighton Pavilion Clarence Mitchell, saying he was taking the fight to Brighton Pavilion, but standing on the Kemp town side of the pier.
