Call me a cynic but was George Osborne’s recent pre-election visit to Brighton, when he formally announced the long-awaited go-ahead for the re-development of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, purely coincidental or just blatant political opportunism?

As this decision was the culmination of concerted local cross-party political lobbying, it was total misplaced of George Osborne to single out local Conservative MP Simon Kirby as the the main protagonist.

Should we be surprised that politicians only align themselves to positive news and disassociate from anything negative?
