Some of the Green Party’s councillors for Brighton and Hove have recently claimed that there have been “improvements” at Seven Dials as a result of the traffic scheme. But I feel the reality is somewhat different.
Having endured months of noise and disruption all we have is an enlarged roundabout, a couple of extra trees and some benches. The extra seating is welcomed by most people.
The safety features, which formerly included pelican crossings and guard railings on the corners, have now been removed which has made life more difficult for many people.
It is particularly difficult for anyone who has an injury, health problem or disability.
There is often more congestion at peak periods due to the narrowing of the roads feeding into Seven Dials.
Deliveries are sometimes more of a problem for residents and businesses alike.
I wouldn’t call it an overall improvement.
