Gallery organisers are celebrating after hitting their fundraising fund to keep open with just minutes to spare.

The ONCA gallery has raised more than £15,000 within a month through their kickstarter campaign.

More than 110 backers supported the campaign with five generous donors giving £100 or more to the cause who will receive a hand-designed CD by author Nick Hunt.

Those dipping into their pockets included supporters from as far away as Los Angeles.

The money will allow the ecological-inspired art gallery to remain at its current site in St George's Place in Brighton at least until next year.

It was nip and tuck whether the gallery would make it on Sunday night when the timer started counting down the last hour with more than £2,000 needed.

Staff say the funding will give them “space to grow” with 40% of the money raised used to meet staffing costs, a quarter on rent, 15% on utility bills and 10% on supplies.

Director Laura Coleman said they were now “feeling on top of the world”.

She said: “We were beginning to prepare not to get it which would have meant we would have had to close in June because we just didn’t have the fudning to stay open.

“In the last two days we had a couple of big donations come in and then it was an adrenaline fuelled few days.

“Even if we had not hit the target, it was amazing the amount of people sharing and the media coverage and made us realise how important the gallery is.”
