On the subject of rusty lamp posts and Brighton and Hove’s infrastructure, I think it is a great shame that parts of the city are gradually rusting away.
I have been trying to get the lamp posts in Lansdowne Place to be repainted for some time as they are sadly disintegrating.
One of them has not functioned since Christmas.
These original Victorian lamp posts have not been repainted for at least 40 years, if ever.
I have been told that there is no funding available, yet money has been found for the 20mph signs painted on the surface of the road, which is both ignored and unenforceable.
I know this is a problem throughout the city and, like the seafront infrastructure, regular maintenance should have been carried out.
Listed buildings in conservation areas have to comply with the regulations relating to their upkeep and repainting, so why not the city’s infrastructure as well?
Perhaps the council could use some of the exorbitant parking charges to fund it.
