A shop in Brighton is bloomin’ marvellous for green-fingered gardeners.
The second phase of Emmaus’s gardening shop opened at the weekend.
The greenhouse, in Drove Road, Portslade, is part of a community social enterprise project run by the Brighton branch of the charity Emmaus.
Rachael Woodgate, project manager of the greenhouse, said: “The greenhouse is a place where a love of gardening and a creative imagination meet to inspire people to have fun with recycling and look at their outdoor space in a new way.
“Promoting upcycling and re- use is at the heart of everything we do.
“We love nothing more than creating something from nothing or what others might consider to be rubbish. By making things that are not only useful but beautifully unique too we hope to inspire people to really think outside the box.
“We offer a bespoke and more personal service than your average garden centre. Customers can choose their favourite basket or box and plants and we’ll create them something special while they explore our magical grounds or enjoy a coffee and cake on our Café Revive terrace.
“They can even bring in their old containers and baskets for us to replant. I hope that service with such imagination and ethical integrity will set us apart.”
People can also get a real taste for growing their own food with a visit to the greenhouse community food garden.
