An elderly lady was viciously attacked in St Leonards.
The 72-year old woman was walking along the footpath in Redgeland Rise, St Leonards, near the junction with Ironlatch Avenue, having just collected her pension.
A young man riding a small BMX bike pushed her to the ground and stole her handbag. She sustained shoulder, arm and hand injuries and an ambulance attended, but she did not require hospital treatment.
Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time and saw the cyclist or may know who he is.
He is described as a white teenager of slim build, wearing a grey hoody and blue jeans.
Detective Constable Nick O'Shaughnessy said; "We would also like to speak to a lady who was walking her boxer dog nearby and who came to the assistance of the victim.
"This was really unpleasant and distressing incident which has left the victim very upset. Anyone who can help is asked to call us on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 574 of 1/4. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
