I refer to your article (The Argus, March 24) entitled “Make street a pedestrian area.”

My wife is disabled and uses St James’s Street to shop. If it is made into a pedestrian area it will become yet another area which she can’t use.

My wife is limited as to how far she can walk. At the moment we can drive to the area of the shop she wants to visit and then I can assist her into the shop. If it is made into a pedestrian area it will be just too far to walk, making it yet another area of shops unusable for the disabled.

David J Wilson, Tarner Road, Brighton We shouldn’t let the authorities rule the streets of Brighton by preventing this important change.

Having visited Liverpool recently and enjoyed the freedom of the excellent pedestrian precinct Liverpool One, I am sure Brighton would benefit from further pedestrianisation of some city centre roads.

St James’s Street is a perfect example, east of the Steine and close to Marine Parade where buses could be re-routed to turn left on to Lower Rock Gardens without causing any inconvenience to the majority of passengers.
