A baby-faced hooligan who was the youngest person in Sussex to receive an Asbo has been jailed ten years later for the same offence.
Louis Theodorou appeared in The Argus aged 11 in early April 2004 after receiving an anti-social behaviour order intended to stop him from stealing cars.
But the 21-year-old, from Portland Road, Portslade, has now been jailed for two years and nine months after stealing a BMW car with his friend Jake Hill.
The court was told the pair stole the vehicle from a family while they slept.
They drove it 100mph away from police, crashed and hid for two hours in a back garden.
When they were found by police they said they were freezing and asked for hot chocolate and blankets.
The court was told Theodorou – who high-fived his friend in the dock – had a troubled childhood and the Asbo obviously had not worked as he has 31 convictions dating from his youth, Mary Walford, prosecuting, said the keys to the BMW were taken from a home on January 2 this year where parents and two children, aged three and six, were sleeping upstairs.
She continued: “It was spotted by two police officers on the A2300 in Burgess Hill driving very quickly.
“It accelerated at 100mph and braked hard.
“Near the A23 it was driven in excess of 100mph.
“They lost control and two men got out.”
She said they ran off in the direction of Hickstead and hid in a garden. Two hours later they came out – asking for drinks.
The owners of the stolen car said they felt “violated” afterwards.
Sarah Thorne, defending Theodorou, said: “He was the first person in the county to receive an Asbo when he was 11.
“I do not think that is something to boast about.
“Many of his convictions stem from breaching that Asbo.”
She said he had a young baby and a “positive relationship” with his girlfriend.
Gareth Morgan, defending Hill, admitted the 19-year-old had led a “shiftless existence” since leaving school but said he was “physically fit” and aspired to become a personal trainer.
Both men admitted one count of burglary and one of theft.
Hill, of Fonthill Road, Hove, was ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work, ordered to liaise with the probation service and pay £100 costs.
