Firefighters were called out six times in ten minutes after a freak storm hit Worthing tonight.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received a spate of calls shortly before 8pm.
There were no reports of significant damage, but callers reported power cuts and fire alarms being set off.
Some phone lines were also affected.
A brigade spokesman said:"We have received a number of calls in a concentrated area of Worthing after what appears to have been a highly localised and unusual storm."
Witnesses reported seeing a "massive" lightning strike followed by a crack of thunder and sudden downpour.
