As a resident of Brighton and Hove I have noticed a steady decline in the appearance and upkeep of our seafront.
I know that the recent storms have done a lot of damage but Brighton and Hove City Council is not doing enough to get it ready for our summer season.
Our seafront from Brighton Marina to Hove Lagoon is our city’s “shop window”.
It is essential for our local economy that it looks its best at all times.
I have it on good authority that at present the council has one street cleaner on duty between Brighton Marina and Hove Lagoon. If this is correct then it is an absolute disgrace.
On my walk the other morning, I chatted to some visitors who were down from London for a day out by the seaside. They commented on how scruffy Brighton and Hove is looking generally, but particularly the seafront.
I felt slightly embarrassed and aggrieved that such a wonderful resource is not maintained by our “green” council.
