A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire in a flat yesterday evening.
The man has been taken in for questioning by Sussex Police.
Firefighters tackled the blaze on the top floor of a block of flats in South Terrace, Littlehampton, shortly before 11pm.
Eight firefighters equipped with breathing masks entered the property with hose reels to put out the blaze.
The flat's two occupants and other residents within the four-storey building were safely evacuated while West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the blaze.
Littlehampton Leisure Centre was used to provide an overnight refuge for those displaced by the fire and nobody was injured.
