A high-tech manufacturing firm is celebrating after securing a multi-million dollar contract with a leading US tech firm.
Burgess Hill-based Ingenia Solutions has confirmed a seven-year deal to supply parts for simulator and training systems with defence firm Rockwell Collins STS, based in Iowa.
The contract is the biggest longterm deal in the firm’s history.
The seven-year deal will see the firm, which is based in Braybon Business Park in Consort Way in Burgess Hill, supply mechanical components for simulator, training systems and visual displays.
The long-term contract will allow the firm to add further engineering resources and staff to expand their current operation in Burgess Hill.
Ingenia, which was founded in 2001, already has an extensive capability to design and manufacture special purpose machines and industrial automation systems.
It counts some of the world’s most prestigious manufacturing companies among its clientele, including a high-profile multinational pharmaceutical firm.
The firm said it had managed to grow in the past few years despite the subdued manufacturing atmosphere and this new contract means that exports will now account for more than 40% of their annual sales.
Ingenia, whose machines and automated systems are currently supplied to the US, Europe and the Far East, currently employs a dozen staff but it is expected that number could double by this time next year.
The firm is also expected to bring in some new technology to meet the demands of the contract.
Robin Cooke, sales manager, said: “It is great news for us.
“We had previously worked with the UK side of the company and then their parent company called and asked us to put a bid together.
“The firmwas very particular in their quality, we had to go through some big hoops in terms of quality control.
“They did try to find what they wanted in the States initially but they had to turn to the UK because they know we have a guarantee of quality.
“I like to think this news will be an encouragement to other bosses that there are deals to be had out there if you are ambitious.”
