Since the 1970s I cannot recall a decade when teachers in the UK did not go on strike.
I am astonished at how few public sector workers based in adult education appear to dictate their working practices – something that would not be tolerated in the private sector.
Some schools finish at 3pm – barely an hour after the end of the lunch break.
If we are serious about improving education in state-run schools, why not extend the school day to 4pm for children over 12?
