I have just watched a television programme featuring all the old entertainers – Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney, Judy Garland and Dinah Shore – all in black and white and what an incredible sound acoustic-wise. Not one had a microphone held up to their mouths and one could hear every word they were singing (apart from Dean Martin who did have a stand microphone, which may have been necessary!).

Sadly our modern-day singers cannot really sing and have to be amplified so that we cannot hear their words. It just goes to prove that modern technology is not all it’s cracked up to be.
