Witnesses claimed a driver hid in a garden after crashing a car.
People took to social media to report the incident at 10pm on Friday. He told Sussex Police: “The driver hid in a garden. Loads of flashing lights.”
Roads Police East Sussex said a police chase took place through Newhaven, Seaford and Peacehaven.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at around 10pm on Friday to Thornhill Rise in Portslade to reports a car had been stolen.
“The black BMW Sports Coupe was traced to the A27 heading east and was stopped by police in Flint Way, Peacehaven.”
Anthony Bailey, 29, unemployed of North Street, Brighton has been charged with burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop for police, driving with no insurance and no licence.
He appeared in court today.
