Railway enthusiasts will appreciate this picture of the signal box at Preston Park, north of Brighton on the main line to London.
The substantial signal box, pictured here in 1966, was closed in 1985 after a major signalling scheme for the line.
Before then, signalling had been surprisingly basic for such a busy line and the improvements improved safety significantly.
Incidentally there is a plaque, well hidden, at Brighton Station to John Saxby, a signalling pioneer in the Victorian era who was born in the town. He invented the interlocking system of points and signals.
The picture was submitted by Mr D Osbourne of Hove.
