Whatever happened to our “customer friendly” Post Office? I do not have a problem with the counter staff as much as the managers who are in charge of running it.

Just over ten days ago I asked my husband to post a birthday card to our young granddaughter.

It didn’t occur to me to ask him to go into the post office to get it “measured”, as it had a first-class stamp on it and was only going to Hove, so he just put it in the post box.

Last week I asked her if she had received it – and she said no. My daughter-in-law said they had refused to deliver it as a surcharge had to be paid and if she wanted it she would have to go to the sorting office to collect it and pay the surcharge there. Years ago if you received a similar letter it was stamped as having “insufficient postage” and you paid the surcharge  there and then.

In future I’ll take my post personally and if more people did that our mean-minded “public service” might find itself losing more than it has gained.
