Top tourist attractions will be plunged into darkness for one hour as part of an environment campaign.
To mark Earth Hour, lights will be turned off at buildings around the city, including the Brighton Wheel and the Palace Pier.
Brighton and Hove City Council will be doing their part with all lights in council buildings switched off unless light is needed for safety reasons at 8.30pm next Saturday.
Brighton and Hove Healthwalks will also be joining the more than 10 million people around the world set to celebrate the World Wide Fund for Nature’s event to raise awareness of the environmental impact of climate change.
The council team are co-ordinating a range of activities to mark the occasion, culminating in a torch lit seafront walk beginning at the Bandstand where people can gather from 8pm to add their “commitment to change” pledge to the commitment tree.
The three best pledges submitted to the Healthwalks team will win their writers a ticket for the Brighton Wheel.
The walk begins at 8.30 when the lights go out and heads along the seafront to the Brighton Wheel, a distance of under a mile.
Arts charity Same Sky is organising free lantern making workshop this Sunday at 1pm at their studio in Belmont Street in Brighton.
Any volunteers to help steward the event can email Healthwalks@brighton-hove.gov.uk while anyone wanting to take part can find out more and register at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/earthhour .
