A very large piece of debris was spotted on the A23 southbound at Patcham this morning.
The piece of material, believed by police to be a shed lorry tyre, was laying dangerously in the middle of the carriageway and cars were having to swerve to avoid it.
The debris was 100 yards north of the junction with the A27.
Sussex Police were informed at 6.50am and made their way to the scene.
When police arrived they found the tyre had been shredded - saying it had most likely been struck by an oncoming vehicle.
In the end, no road closure was necessary.
