I was disappointed to read Labour councillor Warren Morgan’s letter (The Argus, March 15) in which he continues to play party politics with the local NHS.
I have been working hard over a long period of time to secure the £420 million funding needed to redevelop the RSCH.
I have lobbied the Prime Minister, met with the Chancellor to press the case for our hospital and presented a petition to the Health Secretary. If readers would like to add their name to my petition, already signed by more than 1,000 people, it can be found at www.simonkirby.org.
I am doing all this to complement the work of dedicated staff at the hospital who have put together the incredibly detailed bid document.
With such a large amount of public money involved, it is only right and proper (however much we would all like to see a new hospital built immediately) that there is thorough scrutiny of the case.
It is a real shame that, rather than putting party politics aside and getting behind my campaign, Warren and his Labour colleagues locally have continued to oppose my calls for a new hospital, which would provide the much needed upgrade in facilities that local patients and staff deserve.
Residents can be assured I will continue to work hard to make the powerful case for our new hospital.
Simon Kirby, Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven
