Couples gained unusual and quirky ideas at a wedding fair with a difference.

The Quaint Queer alternative wedding fair was hosted by Paul Roberts, former lead singer of The Stranglers, and entertainer Dawn Gracie, from Chichester, at the Corn Exchange in Brighton.

The event included exhibitors of alternative, unique and bespoke wedding services including clothing and accessories.

Organiser Lesley Taylor said the fair celebrated everything that is alternative, retro, LGBT and quirky.

She said: “The event was a roaring success. The vibe was relaxed and friendly. I set this up because I wanted a wedding fair that Brighton could handle, as it is truly alternative, away from the mainstream and I am passionate about giving people choice.

“We had guests travel from as far as Bristol, the Isle of Wight and Kent to be here and every single person I managed to speak to thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”

The Major of Brighton officially opened the fair with men on stilts, owls from Sussex Falconry and models in Mohican headdresses helping to add to the flavour.

The fair attracted more than 400 people.

Mark Hull, visiting from Bognor Regis, said: “It was a relaxed and eclectic event. The enter-tainment was second to none.”
