A foundation has been set up in memory of an 18-year-old university student who died following a battle with a rare disease.

The Alexander Jansons Foundation was created following the death of the popular University of Sussex student last year.

Last Friday, King of Clubs Promotions hosted a charity event in honour of the foundation at Wahoo nightclub in West Street, Brighton, raising more than £500.

Mr Jansons passed away due to a very rare disease called myocarditis, and the foundation is now looking for a cure into the inflammatory condition affecting the heart.

Several thousand patients are diagnosed with this condition annually, with a third of patients going on to make a full recovery while a third of patients will show progressive deterioration.

The foundation will solely fund research into myocarditis and has pledged to raise £240,000 over the next three years.

Nathan Moseby, from King of Clubs Promotions, said that Mr Jansons was a very good friend of the company and regularly attended its events.

He said: “We felt it was apt to host a night in honour of Alex and donate a substantial percentage of our profits to the foundation.

“It is enjoyable and extremely uplifting to go against the typical stereotypes and connotations that surround promoters and instead we wish to distinguish ourselves as a promotions company that looks to give back and support good causes.”
