I recently had the experience of having to visit the Brighton Eye Hospital after an accident one evening last week.
The A&E department saw me immediately and gave me pain relief before they had even asked my name.
I had the appropriate tests and was given treatment and was asked to return in five days to see if I had improved, which I hadn’t.
Upon my return in the morning I was told to come back that afternoon as the department didn’t take patients between 11am and 2pm.
You don’t mind waiting for a while to be seen but surely an A&E department should be open all day?
At 2pm I was told there was a four-hour wait.
This was totally unacceptable, especially as I had been there at 11am.
I had to let my feelings be known and was seen pretty much straight away after that.
But the NHS should be available 24/7 for everyone without so many setbacks and delays.
