The pedestrian who was killed when he was struck by a police car in Hastings has been named as 46-year-old James Sutton, of Silchester Road, St Leonards.
The IPCC, who were informed of the incident today are currently assessing what their level of involvement in the investigation will be.
A post-mortem has yet to take place.
Chief Inspector Natalie Moloney said; "We are co-operating fully with the IPCC and our thoughts are with all those involved and particularly with Mr Sutton's family, to whom we are offering support at this very distressing time for them.
"Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call us on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Marshside."
