A man who nearly lost his leg after a 2.5-tonne car fell on him has undergone surgery for the second time.

David Wakely, 23, was working on his father’s people carrier in Bolney Road, Brighton, when it slipped off the jack. With the tyre removed, the wheel’s disc break lodged into his upper leg.

He initially went under the knife on Sunday, when surgeons battled to save his leg.

Experts at Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital decided to operate again after discovering that the muscle connected to his knee had been severed.

His father, Neil, 46, was told that his son faces a long recovery before walking properly again.
