I have been wondering for a long time about the Brighton Centre on the seafront.
It is in a wonderful position and is ideal for conferences with large hotels in the vicinity.
But it is well and truly dated and needs bringing up to date. Better still is to knock it down.
I am sure there would be a large number of people who would throw their hands up in disgust at the thought of such a thing.
What the city really needs is an entertainment centre to attract the top stars.
The centre would need a car park with a large space for 1,000-plus vehicles at a reasonable cost to park. The only place to accommodate such a space would be somewhere just outside Brighton.
There were many arguments and discussions before the wonderful Amex football stadium was built but look at it now. A great stadium for a great city; surely it is something to be very proud of.
I remember back in the 1980s Cliff Richard used to hold his charity tennis show at the Brighton Centre, which was always packed.
Then he moved away to a larger centre where he could raise more money for his charity. I think that is proof alone that something has to be built.
I appreciate the local council couldn’t afford to build such a place but private enterprise could.
We are now just beginning to come out of a recession, so we are told, in which case there should soon be companies with money who may well jump at the chance of building such a place.
Does anyone else agree with me?
