Just because 20mph limits will not be more actively enforced than 30mph, does not mean they won’t be complied with (Letters, March 4).
You don’t need to live in “Cloudcuckooland” – even Sussex residents can expect that, over time, more and more people will comply with lower limits more often.
Of course some people will always deliberately drive too fast where people live. Perhaps because they think they are more important than everybody else or because they simply can’t be bothered to slow down.
Or because they haven’t yet been able to understand that residents and other road-users have different perspectives and don’t enjoy such antisocial speeding.
Whatever the reason, we should not limit our ambitions by deferring to such people any more than we would allow ourselves to be held to ransom by other forms of criminal behaviour.
