As the situation in Ukraine deteriorates, there are potential dangers for everyone.
Russia is one of Britain’s largest suppliers of natural gas. In addition one of the two main pipelines crosses Ukraine.
It is unlikely the Western powers and Russia will clash militarily but some sort of economic action is likely. If this occurs, gas supplies may well be affected.
In 1974 the price of oil quadrupled with devastating consequences. The price of gas in Britain is high with many struggling to pay their bills.
If Russia turned off the supplies or increased the price there could be serious implications.
The British Government must do more to safeguard supplies.
This means we must proceed with fracking on a large scale.
Local people may object. But the Ukrainian problem highlights the dangers of being at the mercy of potentially hostile foreign suppliers.
