Teenagers are being warned they face missing out on six months of clubbing if they are caught trying to get into late-night venues under-age.
Sussex Police has launched a new poster and educational campaign cracking down on the use of fake IDs.
As part of the new campaign, youngsters are being warned they will be banned for six months once they are legally allowed to enter late-night premises if they are caught out beforehand.
Jean Irving, licensing and public safety manager for Sussex Police, said: “You can see these fake IDs on the internet and it would surprise you how realistic they can be.
“Kids are not thinking about their own safety because they don’t think anything bad will happen to them.
“We are saying to kids, ‘If you are caught using fake ID you will be banned from all the premises in Brighton for six months starting from your 18th birthday’.
“We are also telling them it could stop them having a job having that on their record.
“We’ve focused on these two things and it really seems to hit home.”
