Neighbours are pitted against neighbours in the battle for a parking space on the car-rammed streets of the Preston Park Triangle.
Parking restrictions introduced in July 2013 in the London Road Station area have left many drivers parking roads away from their homes.
These cramped conditions may finally come to an end as the majority of Fiveways residents who responded to the consultation, have voted in favour of a Controlled Parking Zone.
Residents surveys, carried out in September and November 2013, saw 66% of the 610 voters decide in favour of the plans.
Their fate will be decided by the environment, transport & sustainability committee on March 4.
Leo Littman, Green Party councillor for Preston Park, said: “As a result of the consultation, the recommendation to the committee is to extend Zone J to cover all roads consulted, with the exception of Preston Drove.”
Mr Litman’s announcement came as a relief to the rallied up residents whose Fair Parking in Fiveways campaign managed to bring the consultation forward by a year.
If the committee decide in favour, car owners will have to pay £120 for resident parking permits but for many, such as Leonard Hammersley of Chester Terrace, the benefits far outweigh the cost.
The-64-year-old retired school vice-principle said: “I’m hoping this will bring an end to dangerous parking.”
“Some people leave their cars on the corners of streets and it’s impossible to see, I’ve had a number of near misses with other drivers as a result.”
