This little hut and railway were constructed at the Devil’s Dyke beauty spot near Brighton in the late Victorian era.

Called the Dyke Steep Grade Railway, it was a funicular built by the owner of the Dyke Hotel, JH Hubbard, in 1897.

The railway came up from the village of Poynings to the Dyke. There was also a conventional railway to Brighton and a cable car strung across the valley.

By 1909, both the cable cars and funicular had gone. Nothing remains of them except a few scars and bits of concrete.
