While admitting that “there is no such thing as a completely safe facility”, Brighton and Hove City Council is proposing to go ahead with the construction of a new cycle lane in the Vogue Gyratory area of Lewes Road (The Argus, January 16).
This will involve vehicles and cyclists entering what the council calls a 30-metre “zone of conflict” but what everyone else will call a council-designed traffic accident black spot.
It is hoped the next edition of the Highway Code will include this new sign, designed and produced exclusively for the use of a council that lives in a different world to the rest of us.
