A Worthing liberal democrat councillor has crossed the floor to join the UK Independence Party.
Worthing borough councillor Trevor England has swapped yellow for purple to become the town's second Ukip councillor.
He follows in the footsteps of the lead of Conservative former Mayor Charles James who became Worthing's first Ukip councillor in July.
Coun England was elected for the Liberal Democrats in 2010 for four years and is up for re-election next year.
He said: “Having also looked at the local Conservative party, it became clearer to me that too many councillors nowadays are under duress to obey a particular party line.
“UKIP's distinct policy of not whipping its councillors, but letting them champion the views of the local residents, was the clincher in the end.”
