Most people have heard of barbershop quartets, but this Brighton barber is going solo.
Peter Joannou is becoming a regular fixture outside his barber shop in Middle Street, Brighton, as he swaps his scissors for a microphone and breaks into song.
He mainly performs his favourite swing and jazz numbers, featuring tunes by Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
Mr Joannau, who has had the shop for 11 months, has always loved singing and performing, and enjoys helping to brighten up people’s day.
He will also occasionally sing while cutting people’s hair, particularly if he has a groom and relatives preparing for a wedding.
Mr Joannou said: “One day I had a client who had come in with his wife. The client knew I sang and his wife asked for a song.
“I enjoyed it and so I thought why not do it more often? So over the last month I have got the microphone and the speakers and started singing.”
Mr Joannou, 45, usually performs outside the shop on Saturday afternoons and he says that any donations from customers and passers-by will be going towards Cancer Research UK.
He said: “People stop to listen and others sometimes break into a dance as they go past. It is great fun.
“I will keep it going until Christmas and then hand over what I’ve raised. It’s a very good cause.”
