Thieves have stolen inflatable 6ft bananas from a Worthing health spa.

Henry House had the blow-up bananas outside its building in Heene Road to promote its Bike for Bananas scheme.

But some yellow-bellied thieves made off with the novelty items in the early hours of September 28.

Now owner Karen Simporis is a-peel-ing for the thieves to bring the bananas back.

Did this story make you chuckle? Here are some more recent quirkies to tickle your fancy:

She said: “We are a green business and try to promote all kinds of green things.

“If you cycle to Henry House we will give you a free Fairtrade banana.

“The giant bananas are to encourage people to use sustainable transport.

“We stuck them outside so people would take notice but they have |gone.

“They had only been up there for five days when they were stolen.

“All we want is our bananas to be returned.”

The hot pool and therapy centre, which Ms Simporis took over in 1997, is a champion of green causes.

It uses solar panels to generate electricity and collects rainwater to use at the premises.

Its Bike for Bananas scheme has proved popular in the past and is a great way to raise awareness of green transport.

But the theft of the bananas has proved a setback, and it is not the first time it has occurred.

Ms Simporis said: “It happened a couple of years ago, but I did not think much of it.

“Lots of people have come in and asked where they have gone.

“They do not cost a lot, but it is about trying to highlight the green issues and sustainability.

“We have a locked gate but we do not want to have to live in a fortress.”

If anyone has any information about the bananas they are urged to call Ms Simporis on 01903 232875.
